Failed Daily Show host Trevor Noah is catching major backlash after his latest stand-up act included a tasteless bit joking about what he found “funny” in the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
In a YouTube clip, Trevor Noah is seen performing at New York’s Comedy Cellar, riffing about the murder of the Turning Point USA founder. Kirk was assassinated on September 10th at Utah Valley University by a suspect authorities say was heavily influenced by far-left ideology.
Trevor Noah, the South African “comedian” best known for his failed stint on The Daily Show, thought it was hilarious that Kirk was gunned down while speaking about the Second Amendment.
“Meanwhile, here comedians are […] themselves,” Noah said. “‘Don’t say anything about Charlie Kirk.’ I wasn’t going to say anything about him….about Charlie Kirk… ‘But don’t. There’s nothing funny about it.’”
“Ah, now you’ve tested me. I mean, there’s nothing funny about it?” he added, and the room laughed. “I’m sure there’s something funny about it. The guy was shot while defending guns. I’m not even writing that as a joke, as a human, you have to admit that is an incongruous, funny thing that happens.”
Noah then mimics the sound of a gunshot as he describes how Kirk was speaking on stage when he was shot. “That would be like if the captain of the Titanic was giving an impassioned speech about icebergs right before it happened…,” Noah went on to say, while trying to claim both were funny and not funny.
Needless to say, many people – those with consciences who aren’t competing for “Worst Human Being Ever” – were quick to condemn the bit.
“Leftist ‘comedian’ Trevor Noah just said he thinks it was ‘funny’ that Charlie Kirk was shot while defending guns,” one person wrote. “This is the modern left. ”
Another added, “Trevor Noah jokes about Charlie Kirk’s assassination during his standup set. These people are sick.”
While a third person wrote, “You must be soulless to find anything funny about a murder. Trevor Noah is making fun of Charlie Kirk’s murder, on behalf of people who say —’We need to ban guns or else we will keep killing you.’”
This isn’t funny — not in the slightest. No one in that room should have been laughing. And sure, some people will shrug and say, “Who cares about this guy?” But as RedState’s Bob Hoge pointed out in his piece, “Why We Must Pay Attention to AOC, Jasmine Crockett, Newsom, and the Other Dem Nitwits,” we have to care:
The question I’m sure many are asking themselves these days—and I know, because I’ve heard it being asked—is, who cares? “Jasmine Crockett is a walking cartoon, and I am not interested in a single hateful word that comes out of her mouth.” “California Rep. Eric Swalwell makes a fool out of himself with every cringe tweet; who gives a rat’s patootie what he’s gaslighting about now?”
Turns out there’s a very good reason we should be paying attention. If you ignore the big snake in your bedroom, chances are it’s gonna bite you. And despite what it might look like at the moment, with their approval polls at the bottom of the Mariana Trench and their prospects looking dimmer than Hawaii Sen. Mazie Hirono’s intellect, they are not dead yet. They are still very, very dangerous to the future of America.
Because this kind of rhetoric — this normalization of cruelty and political hatred — doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It shapes the culture. It feeds the radicalism. And when someone like Trevor Noah mocks a political assassination, it’s not just tasteless — it’s dangerous.
